What is Zen ?
Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism. Kōsetsu-ji belongs to the Zen Sōtō, which emphasizes the practice of zazen (sitting “meditation”).
How do you practise Zen?
Zen Practice involves, among other things, sitting in the posture of awakening, breathing calmly, and observing the thoughts and sensations that arise, without becoming attached to them, simply letting them pass.
This practice is accessible to everyone.
What is a Zen temple?
A Zen temple is a place where nuns and monks reside and where a person cetified by the Sōtō Zen School teaches.
In a Zen temple, zazen, samu, ceremonies and community life are practiced daily.
Retreats (sesshin) are organized regularly.
